Deadlock's Next Big Update is Delayed Until Late September, Valve Confirms

Players of Deadlock, Valve's innovative MOBA-shooter, are experiencing a familiar cycle of anticipation and uncertainty as the game's next significant update faces a delay. Valve, known for its sometimes-unpredictable communication style, has not committed to a fixed update schedule for the game, which remains in a pseudo-early access phase. This lack of a definitive timeline often leads dedicated players to scrutinize every snippet of information, including rumors and developer posts, and even observe activities near Valve's Seattle offices, jokingly watching for pizza deliveries as a sign of impending releases.

The community had hoped for a swift follow-up to the recent "Old Gods, New Blood" update, which introduced six new heroes and various gameplay overhauls. Although Valve had previously indicated a substantial content update alongside smaller patches for ranked mode and items, the ranked mode rework has now been released, leaving players eager for the larger content drop. However, a recent announcement from a developer known as Yoshi confirmed that the next major update, which may combine item and content changes, will now arrive in "late September." The delay, according to Yoshi, stems primarily from the necessary extended period of playtesting and iteration, rather than any changes in the update's scope.

Despite its invite-only status since launch, Deadlock has seen a steady stream of improvements, bringing it closer to a public release. The "Old Gods, New Blood" update marked a turning point, with Valve actively engaging the community through a dedicated webpage and player votes for new hero releases, signaling a renewed commitment to the project. This increased transparency and consistent update pace suggest that Valve recognizes the strong demand for Deadlock's unique blend of MOBA and hero shooter mechanics, and is working diligently to refine the game before its broader debut. The team's playful acknowledgment of the "pizza theory" indicates a connection with its player base, reinforcing the expectation that they are committed to delivering a polished and engaging experience.

This dedication to thorough development, even when it means adjusting timelines, highlights a commitment to quality that ultimately benefits players. By taking the time needed for comprehensive playtesting and refinement, Valve ensures that the upcoming update will meet the high standards expected by its community, paving the way for a successful public launch and a thriving future for Deadlock.
