Final Fantasy VII Revelation: Physical Editions and Release Details Revealed

The highly anticipated conclusion to the Final Fantasy VII remake saga, titled Final Fantasy VII Revelation, is set to launch on April 8, 2027. While fans can rejoice at the confirmation of a physical release, Square Enix has introduced a notable change in its distribution strategy for this final installment. The physical edition will necessitate an internet connection to download essential game data, departing from the fully self-contained multi-disc versions of its predecessors, Remake and Rebirth. This shift, despite offering a physical disc, marks a compromise in the traditional physical media experience.

During a surprise appearance at the Final Fantasy 14 Berlin Fan Fest, director Naoki Hamaguchi initially expressed a desire for a physical release of Final Fantasy VII Revelation. This wish has been granted, but with a modern twist. Unlike the prior two entries in the remake trilogy, which offered complete offline play from their multi-disc sets, Revelation's physical disc will serve more as a gateway, requiring online connectivity to complete the game's installation. This approach, while more accommodating than a purely digital code inside a box (a trend seen with titles like Grand Theft Auto 6), represents a departure from Square Enix's earlier commitment to comprehensive physical releases for this series.

Beyond the core game, Square Enix has outlined a diverse range of editions for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, each designed to cater to different levels of fan enthusiasm. The Standard Edition, priced at .99, will come with minor retailer-specific bonuses, such as a special Magic: The Gathering card or a folded poster. For those seeking more, the .99 Deluxe Edition includes a mini-soundtrack, an artbook, and a steelbook case, offering a tangible collection of supplemental content. Digital-focused players can opt for the Premium Edition at the same price, which adds the Story Expansion Pass and 24-hour early access.

Further expanding on the digital offerings, the Premium Plus Edition, costing 9.99, bundles all Premium Edition benefits with a digital soundtrack, artbook, and several in-game enhancements. For newcomers to the series or those looking to consolidate their collection, the Final Fantasy VII Remake Series Trilogy Edition is available for .99 with digital pre-orders, providing immediate access to both Remake and Rebirth. However, the most lavish offering is the physical Collector's Edition, priced at 9.99 and exclusively available through the Square Enix store. This ultimate package includes everything from the Deluxe Edition, the Story Expansion Pass, exclusive in-game items, and a standout premium statue depicting Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth. Considering its comprehensive nature and the escalating cost of modern gaming consoles, the Collector's Edition could be perceived by some as a considerable value proposition.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is slated for release on April 8, 2027, across multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. The decision to mandate an internet connection for the physical version's full functionality highlights the ongoing industry trend towards digital reliance, even for disc-based products. Despite this change, the variety of editions ensures that fans have ample choices to celebrate the culmination of this epic remake trilogy.
