The esteemed Criterion Collection has recently disclosed an array of exciting details concerning the physical edition of Netflix's animated triumph, "KPop Demon Hunters." Following its initial announcement in February, this Oscar-winning sensation is set to receive a comprehensive physical release, complete with a treasure trove of additional content and exclusive collector's items, much to the delight of its ardent fanbase. This highly anticipated release promises to deliver an unparalleled viewing and collecting experience for enthusiasts of the film.
A standout feature of this release is the breathtaking cover art, skillfully crafted by Ami Thompson. Her dynamic illustration captures HUNTR/X members Rumi, Mira, and Zoey in mid-action, poised for battle, set against a backdrop of geometric patterns that brilliantly echo the film's mystical Honmoon barrier. The collection will include a 4K UHD disc enhanced with Dolby Vision HDR, alongside two Blu-ray discs dedicated to the film itself and an extensive suite of special features. This commitment to visual and content quality underscores the significance of this Criterion offering.
Beyond the stunning visuals, the special features package is equally impressive. It boasts a full-length animatic, introduced by directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, offering an intimate glimpse into the animation process. Fans can also look forward to a brand-new documentary chronicling the making of the film, and two insightful video essays from Taylor Ramos and Tony Zhou of Every Frame a Painting. In a thoughtful touch, a trailer for "KPop Demon Hunters" is included, along with lyric videos for each of the film's songs. Accessibility is also a priority, with English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing, and English descriptive audio.
For collectors, the physical goodies are a major draw. The release will feature several collectible postcards adorned with original illustrations from the film's artists, providing tangible pieces of the movie's artistic vision. Additionally, an essay penned by esteemed critic Karen Han will be part of the package, offering deeper insights and analysis into "KPop Demon Hunters."
The Criterion edition of "KPop Demon Hunters" is scheduled for release on November 3, 2026, and pre-orders are currently open. Pricing for the three-disc 4K + Blu-ray set is .96, the two-disc Blu-ray set is available for .96, and the two-disc DVD set can be purchased for .96. This release solidifies "KPop Demon Hunters" position alongside other prominent Netflix titles in the Criterion Collection, such as Alfonso Cuarón’s "Roma," Martin Scorsese’s "The Irishman," Jane Campion’s "The Power of the Dog," Noah Baumbach’s "Marriage Story," and Guillermo del Toro’s "Frankenstein," further cementing its legacy in cinematic history.
