The Pokémon Trading Card Game's 30th-anniversary collection is set to launch soon, and obtaining these special items has proven difficult. For enthusiasts hoping to acquire the celebratory merchandise at or near the suggested retail price, opportunities are scarce. However, early risers might find Target a viable option to secure the new Pikachu cards when they become available on September 16, 2026.
Target is preparing to offer several 30th-anniversary Pokémon products. Among them is the Celebration Knock Out Collection, which includes two booster packs, a foil Eevee card, and a golden coin. Unlike typical Pokémon boosters that contain ten cards, these anniversary packs will have only seven. While the manufacturer's suggested retail price is .99, Target's pricing may be slightly higher. Additionally, Target plans to sell the 30th Celebration ex box for .99. These boxes come in two versions, featuring either Sylveon ex or Greninja ex, and each contains four booster packs and an oversized card. Historically, Target's online sales have imposed limits of two unique Pokémon products per transaction, with a maximum of two separate transactions per user. Theoretically, this allows fans to purchase up to four Knock Out Collection boxes through multiple orders. However, due to the prevalence of automated purchasing bots and frequent server issues, most buyers will be fortunate to secure even one item.
The online sale is anticipated to begin at 3 a.m. EST, with Target releasing items sequentially without prior notice of the next drop. This means customers may need to wait patiently for the specific 30th-anniversary products to appear. Other Pokémon items, such as First Partner Series 2, Prismatic SPC, and Chaos Rising Elite Trainer Boxes, are also expected to be released during this period. These drop windows can extend for several hours, so those planning to participate should be prepared for a late night. To maximize your chances, it is recommended to set up a Target account beforehand with saved credit card information, avoiding payment methods known for issues with Target, such as Apple Card. Logging into both the Target app and a separate browser is also advisable. Add the desired product to your cart via mobile and then use the other browser window to go directly to Target.com/checkout. This strategy bypasses the cart loading step, reducing the likelihood of page errors. Be prepared for potential difficulties in adding items to your cart, as many users find themselves repeatedly clicking "Add To Cart" before the action is registered. A successful attempt might lead to a new error indicating a high-demand product in your cart. From there, continuously refresh your cart page until the Pokémon box appears, as blank pages or warnings about high traffic are common. While your odds at Target may be better than at Walmart, they are generally lower than at The Pokémon Center. According to product stock Discord servers, Target's initial 30th-anniversary inventory will be limited, attracting many resellers. If you are a night owl or have no early morning commitments, it is worth attempting, but be prepared for a test of patience and frequent page reloads.
Securing coveted items like these limited-edition Pokémon cards often requires more than just quick clicks; it demands strategy, patience, and a bit of luck. The excitement and dedication shown by fans in pursuit of these collectibles underscore the enduring appeal and community spirit of the Pokémon franchise, turning a simple product launch into a challenging yet rewarding quest.
